Intel on the Increment

The real Increment

The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), better known as MI6, apparently mentioned a cell comprised of operators from within 22 SAS and the Special Boat Squadron that was known as "The Increment"; they are/were the cream of the crop of SAS/SBS soldiers that are selected and sent specifically on SIS-supervised missions such as would have been the case in Tomlinson's accusation that SIS had devised possible assassination scenarios for Serbia's Slobodan Milosevic. It is not known if they are a permanent unit or whether they are only activated for specialist operations.

According to a 1998 letter drafted by former SIS agent Richard Tomlinson , Tomlinson claimed the existence of the unit and of a written plan to use The Increment to assassinate Milosevic.

"The remainder of the document proposed three methods to assassinate Milosevic. The first method was to train and equip a Serbian paramilitary opposition group to assassinate Milosevic in Serbia. Fishwick argued that this method would have the advantage of deniability, but the disadvantage that control of the operation would be low and the chances of success unpredictable. The second method was to use the Increment (a small cell of the SAS and SBS which is especially selected and trained to carry out operations exclusively for MI5/MI6) to infiltrate Serbia and attack Milosevic either with a bomb or sniper ambush. Fishwick argued that this would plan would be the most reliable, but would be undeniable if it went wrong. Fishwick's third proposal was to kill Milosevic in a staged car crash, possibly during one of his visits to the ICFY (International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia) in Geneva, Switzerland. Fishwick even provided a suggestion about how this could be done, such as by disorientating Milosevic's chauffeur using a blinding strobe light as the cavalcade passed through one of Geneva's motorway tunnels."

A clear definition of who or what "The Increment" was/are has never been released by any of the British Goverments agencies. Proposals by parliment to be more open to the public have to date not involved "The Increment", they according to the British Goverment just do not exsist, nor are they accountable for any actions they carry out.

The virtual Increment

The Increment (Inc) as a clan started in May 1997 as Counter-Revolutionary Warfare or CRW. This was mostly a co-op clan of ex-military types that played Rogue Spear. CRW would pick a mission and place on member in charge of the operation. That member was responsible for planning, training, and leading CRW on the mission (hostage rescue).

The Increment went back in the shadows but some members carried out the spirit of Inc in the game called SWAT-3. Here we ran the same type gameplay, doing co-op "live mission" as we call it. We made a scenario out of real world news and members got called out on missions they had to plan and execute to save hostages. During this period The Increment got new solid members, and we worked under names like SAS and LASD.

With the release of Ghost Recon the partly separated Increment got back togheter as one and have since been togheter. At this time Increment was a "secret" clan that became a highly competitive clan competing in many ladders and tournaments with a 92% win rate (we played under many different names and ID's. You may have played us and didn't know it). However, this came at the cost of having fun because of the amount of time training and competing at this high level. Now that Americas Army has become the main platform for gaming Increment now has come out of the shadows and just plays for fun (however, if a clan come on our server and act likes jerks we can still kick ass with the best of them and will hunt them down). We are a mature, fun loving, cheater-hating group that have been friends for many many years. No one was recruited or tried out to become a member. You must be invited to join and go through a probation period before becoming a full member of Increment. We are a family of equals (just some are more equal that others…lol). In all the years Increment has been around there has never been a cross word between members, and we support each other in the virtual world and in the real world.

And you never know.... Maybe Inc are in leagues and ladders after all..... in the shadows...:-)
